Keep up with what's happening at PARCC.
In its supplemental grant to the U.S. Department of Education, PARCC allocated funds for the development of model instructional units. The units outlined in the proposal were expected to include a coherent set of tools ranging from information about assessment results, formative activities, professional development materials for educators, and communications materials.
As a first step in identifying the priority areas of work on the model instructional units, PARCC conducted a survey of Race to the Top (RTTT) states to determine what states are currently working on with regard to developing instructional materials, identifying areas of overlap, and determining where to best target PARCC funds. This survey was then expanded to include additional PARCC states.
In order to build off the best of state work, minimize redundancy, and help states and districts build capacity to implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and PARCC, PARCC will shift the focus of this work from developing individual units to developing online modules that will support states and districts to:
These Professional Learning Modules will be built around work that is already underway in states to develop model instructional units as well as rubrics to evaluate quality and alignment of instructional materials.
