By Parcc Communications TeamAll scorers hired by the test vendor to score the PARCC assessment have degrees in mathematics, reading, education, or a related field.
Mathematics scorers have completed a four‐year college degree and must demonstrate the mathematics knowledge needed to effectively score responses to mathematics items. Scorers for English language arts/literacy have degrees in reading, education, history, psychology, journalism, or a related area and/or teacher certification or other work experience that will enable them to effectively score the literacy analysis, research simulation, or narrative writing tasks.
Pearson, which administers the PARCC test for states, recruits qualified scorers on its website, Pearson Assessments, and advertises in other publications. Applicants go through a rigorous and selective evaluation and hiring process to qualify as PARCC scorers. This includes extensive training, and scorers must pass practice scoring sets before being qualified as a PARCC scorer.
