Massachusetts Commitment to Higher Standards

Massachusetts has been actively engaged in the American Diploma Project Network since 2005, aligning its standards with expectations of postsecondary education and employers. In August 2010, Massachusetts became one of twelve states to win the Race to the Top competition. Massachusetts adopted new Curriculum Frameworks in English Language Arts and Mathematics, which incorporate the Common Core State Standards, in 2010, and was a founding Governing State in the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers.  Leaders from Massachusetts’ K-12 and higher education communities were deeply engaged in the development of PARCC’s proposal for common, next-generation assessments.

Postsecondary Commitment to College and Career Readiness

All of Massachusetts’ public two- and four-year colleges and universities have committed to participate in PARCC, help develop the college-ready assessments, and, ultimately, use those assessments as one indicator of students’ readiness for entry-level, credit-bearing college courses. Together, these institutions educate 100% of the freshman entering public colleges and universities in Massachusetts.
