Kentucky is a Participating State in the PARCC Consortium

Ken Draut, Associate Commissioner at the Kentucky Department of Education, and Jennifer Stafford, Policy Advisor at the Kentucky Department of Education, serve as the K-12 Leads for PARCC in Kentucky. Dr. Bob King, president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, serves on the PARCC Advisory Committee on College Readiness. Sue Cain, Director of Developmental Education & College Readiness at the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, coordinates PARCC-related postsecondary engagement activities in the state.

State Commitment to College and Career Readiness

Kentucky has been active in the American Diploma Project Network since 2005, aligning its standards and graduation requirements to the expectations of postsecondary education and employers.  The Kentucky Board of Education adopted the Common Core State Standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy in February 2010.  The state joined the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers as a Participating State in the spring of 2010 and actively helped shape PARCC’s proposal for a common, next-generation assessment system.

Higher Education Commitment

The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, which represents all of the state’s two- and four-year public colleges and universities, has committed to participate in PARCC, help develop the college-ready assessments, and, ultimately, use those assessments as one indicator of students’ readiness for entry-level, credit-bearing college courses.  Together, these institutions educate 100% of the freshman entering public colleges and universities in Kentucky.
